What Is A Subdomain? Print E-mail
Stated in technical terms, a subdomain is a domain's secondary namespace.  More simply it's a "subdivision" or your normal domain name.  A subdomain can be set up as a separate entry point to your website for a variety of reasons and take the form of http://subdomain.maindomain.com.  The most common use for sub domains is to give separate and easy entry to blogs and forums, such as http://myblog.mymainsite.com.  Most DNS and web hosting accounts allow for the creation of such subdomains.
