W3C validation is testing a website or page against W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standards for coding.  Though most websites function properly without such validation, adhering to the standards assures the smoothest and most compatible web coding possible.  Validation can be obtained online through live testing, or from uploading code to be examined.  Compliant websites or pages are entitled to display the WC3 Compliant badge on their site or appropriate pages..
