What Is An NDR Or Bounce Notice?

A Non Deliverable Report, or NDR Notice is commonly referred to as a bounce notification. As it sounds, it reports that your email was not able to be sent to your recipient in the "To" box. This can be for a number of reasons. Common reasons are that the email address is invalid or typed wrong. Sometimes a recipient's mailbox may be full, or the destination mail server may be having trouble. There are also different types. Some are fatal saying they cannot deliver the message. Some are warnings that your mail server is having trouble sending it but will continue trying to a given period of time. This latter notice is referred to a a delay notification.

The NDR contains a lot of valuable information to help determine what the problem was, and if it was on your end or the destination side. This information is often murky and confusing. You may need to contact your email support organization. Be prepared to forward them the entire bounce notice and probably the original outgoing email for their troubleshooting.
