The term merchant services relates to vendors who allow you to process credit cards and other electronic forms of payment.  If you are going to be involved in selling from your website, you will need some sort of merchant services to be able to accept credit cards.  Such programs generally have a small per transaction fee as well as a percentage of the transactions.  Many merchant services will have a monthly fee or minimum billing level as well.
