Do I Have To Keep Customer Credit Card Information? Print E-mail
Not necessarily.  There are generally two ways to handle credit card processing.  In one model, the customer shops, and checks out providing their information your site, then the information is passed on through your payment gateway for processing.  Confidential information is actually being stored on your site.  A better model for small and mid sized business is to have the customer shop on your site, then forwarded to your merchant services provider's platform for check out and collecting  confidential information for processing, then returned back to your site.  The customer's confidential information is housed with the merchant services provider who has the necessary security platform already in place.
