What Is Domain Forwarding? Print E-mail
Domain forwarding is the practice of forwarding, or pointing a domain name to another domain name.  An example is forwarding "domain1.com" to "domain2.com".  When someone follows a link or types in the address for domain1, they will be automatically forwarded to domain2, with domain2 now visible in the address bar.  This is a common practice and works well in almost all situations.

This is useful when changing domain names or when forwarding one TLD (top level domain) to another as in forwarding "domain1.net" to "domain1.com".  Domains can also be forwarded to directories or sub domains.  For example forwarding "domain1.com to domain2.com/directory", to "subdomain.domain2.com"
