What Is Fail Over DNS? Print E-mail
In short, fail over DNS is a configuration that monitors a website for availability.  When the fail over probe senses that the website is no longer available, it immediate starts sending requests for that website to a second duplicate or "mirror" of the original website, usually at an entirely different hosting facility.  When the original site becomes available again, traffic request will again be routed to it.  While this is not the ideal fail over solution, it can be set up fairly inexpensively and has a fail over time of about 2 minutes.
