What Is A C Name Record Print E-mail
A C Name record is a DNS record that creates an alias for a domain's namespace, or sub namespace.  A C Name record is a simple name that is associated with another simple name, and not an IP address.  Best practice is to create a C Name alias only for an A record which points to an IP.

As an example, the sub domain space "www" is usually assigned as a separate A record along with the main domain name, domain.com.  Both A records point directly to the IP address for the domain.  In using a C Name record instead, "www" can be set up as an alias that points directly to a single A record for domain.com.  That way, when someone accesses www.domain.com, they are redirected directly to domain.com.
