What Are Custom Or Private Name Servers

Custom, or private name servers describes the aliasing of your provisioned name servers with a hostname corresponding to your domain. As an example, your domain name, mydomain.com will have name servers called something like ns1.thirdparty.com and ns2.thirdparty.com. You can assign aliases to these name servers and call them ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com.

The use of customer name servers is desirable in some cases where you may not want it to be obvious where your domain or website is registered or hosted at, since this is public information and readily available through many DNS lookup sites and services.

Caution should be used in attempting to set up custom name servers as it involves created vital A records for these name servers and changing the name server settings for your domain. It is suggested to have someone knowledgeable on this process advise you or do it for you.
