Obviously I must give inspirational credit here to Jeff Foxworthy for the modeling of this post. We've all seen websites that are actually quite annoying and we forget that someone who made the site, or paid for the site must have thought it was great. Sometimes it's not the whole site that sucks, just portions. Here's an opportunity to view your site from a visitor's perspective. Your website just might suck if...
If your website has so many pop-ups or pop-under promotions it's like playing browser "whack-a-mole", then your website may suck. If your website takes you to a commercial or ad page that visitors must navigate a maze of click through hurdles to get to your real home page, then your website may suck. If your website requires visitors to load or install a special script or update before being able to view it, then your website may suck. If your website has more dead links than live, then your website may suck. If your websites plays music suddenly and unexpectedly, making your grab for your volume and sending the boss out into the hall, then your website may suck. If your website has graphics or tables that push out the sides of the template or simply do not appear in full, then your website may suck. If your website requires considerable scrolling from left to right, not allowing for full width viewing, then your website may suck. If your web site looks great in one browser, but looks like a Picasso in another browser, then your website may suck. If your website displays reciprocal links from totally unrelated or unknown websites, then your website may suck. If your website has a blog roll that is three feet long, extending far below the rest of the page, then your website may suck. If your website is displaying a single copyright statement from 2004, then your website may suck. If your website is displaying Google ads from your own competitors, the your website may suck. If your website has been "Under Construction" for the last 12 years, or has placeholders for "Coming Soon", then your website may suck. If your website displays graphics or pictures distorted from resizing or disproportioned like a trick mirror at the circus, then your website may suck. As you can see, there are many small irritations you may be unknowingly subjecting your website visitors to that not only might at best distract them, but at worst annoy the hell out them. Look at your website from your visitor's point of view. If you were visiting your site, would you think it sucked? What are some of the annoyances you've encountered on the web and what makes you think a website sucks? Let us know here |
