Many people spend a lot of time developing websites on free domain names, only to lose them when renewal comes up, or they find out they didn't really control the name. Domain Names are so cheap I really don't get it. |

I get a lot of questions about this, so without explaining any real or perceived advantage to using them, we'll just take a look at the fundamentals of setting them up for your domain. Note this requires a bit of knowledge regarding the concepts of Name Servers and your domain name's DNS records. |

With all the interest in free blog hosting and free domain name deals on the net, I wanted to mention something about domain registrars and best practices. If you're getting "free domain names" from your hosting source or your registrar, you need to make sure you are actually the registrant of record. If your domain name is part of your brand, protect it. |

Are you using hidden links and text on our website to push more back links and keyword density into the SEO mix? This may be one of the most reviled of all SEO Black Hat techniques. As with many Black Hat techniques, once identified by search engines this could result in doing much more harm than good. I recently had a reminder of how prevalent the practice is. |
